Even then, peak high season is only the months of July and August. In reality though, its still offseason during the shoulder months when the kids are in school. The Cape Cod offseason is considered to run from October through April. You can go by car, ferry and plane on day trips from Boston MA to Provincetown on Cape Cod. You may recognise some of the other national seashores such as Cape Hatteras in the Outer Banks and Canaveral in Florida (also famous for the Kennedy Space Center). The Cape Cod towns encompassed by the National Seashore are mostly in Eastham, Wellfleet, Truro and Provincetown, with some shoreline in Chatham and Orleans.Ĭape Cod National Seashore is in the middle in terms of size among the 10 national seashores. In recent years there have been many confirmed reports of great white sharks feeding on seals close to shore, near where people swim and surf. The Seashore urges visitors to read public safety notices at the beaches, including the ones that warn of sharks.Īs the seal population has increased on the Outer Cape so has the great white shark population. Protection rangers enforce the pet regulations. Visitors are required to pick up after their dog. Failure to leash your pet or being in an area closed to pets may result in a fine. Pets must be leash-controlled to prevent them from disturbing people and other pets, from harassing wildlife, and for their own safety. Walking pets in these areas is prohibited 24/7. ![]() If there are shorebird closures on or beyond lifeguard-protected beaches (there already are several posted), pets are not allowed to walk through. However, leashed pets are permitted to pass through lifeguard protected areas to reach areas where they may otherwise be allowed. Petsĭuring the summer, pets are not permitted on lifeguard-protected beaches. Persons reserving in person are given priority over those reserving by phone, the Seashore noted, and demand usually exceeds the number of permits available. Group leaders will sign for permits and provide a vehicle license plate, local phone number, and local address at the time of reservation. New in 2021, permits are issued at the time of reservation, eliminating the need to return to the center on the day of the fire to pick up a permit. For fires at Head of the Meadow, Race Point, and Herring Cove beaches, reservations are made at Province Lands Visitor Center. Fire permits may be reserved up to three days in advance beginning at 9 am.įor fires at Coast Guard, Nauset Light, and Marconi beaches, reservations are made at Salt Pond Visitor Center.
